Why I Built TradersStudio®

November 8, 2014 by

Welcome to the TradersStudio Blog. My name is Murray Ruggiero. I am Vice President of Research and Development for TradersStudio and I designed this product to fill my own trading needs. Broadly, my goal was to develop a product that I could use for my money management business. This all started back in 2002 as I was tired of not being able to do the things I wanted to in terms of developing trading systems and implementing money management. I came to the realization that if I developed my own platform, then I could not only dream up any system that I wanted, but I could also test it and implement it in real-world applications. It took us three years to release our first version of TradersStudio back in September 2005 and since then we have spent over $1,000,000 in effort to develop this product.

Many people ask us why we sell TradersStudio for $500, not $3000 or more like our competitors’ products. The biggest reason is that I am not trying to get rich off TradersStudio. I just want to offset my development and research costs. We have six programmers working on TradersStudio and TradersStudio related projects, not counting myself. We have had six major releases of TradersStudio and are currently in development of another major upgrade.

See, when I developed TradersStudio. I needed a product that could handle Futures and equity trading equally well, and allow development across a portfolio of markets/equities. I also wanted to be able to combine multiple systems and portfolios together with powerful trade management strategies. These strategies encompassed classic ones that I could code as well as any new ideas I could dream up. This sounds easy but there have been many issues.

Let’s now look at being an equity trader. Most people who are not real traders do backtests for developing equity systems using just split /dividend adjusted data. This can create problems, which I can sum up with a simple example. If we look at split adjusted Microsoft stock from 1986 , the split adjusted price would be .11, while the real price was about $32.00. Using split adjusted data on a portfolio requires trading the same dollar value of each stock or your analysis is not valid. This means we can’t use something like volatility based sizing. Because of issues like this we developed our own type of analysis which uses split adjusted, unadjusted, and dividend adjusted data and allow us to show real prices and all splits and dividends during trades. Using our analysis any type of money management is valid because we are sizing our share using real prices and our P/L is automatically adjusted if splits or dividends occur during a trade. We call this TradersStudio Stock analysis. Currently I am chief system designer for Tuttle Wealth Management and we currently manage $80 million in mutual funds and ETFs using TradersStudio based equity systems. We could not do our position sizing if it was not for our TradersStudio stock based analysis. TradersStudio also allows dynamic rebalancing of position, which is a feature I added for my real world applications.

In terms of Futures trading, we have many powerful features in TradersStudio. Some products that can handle portfolios don’t handle min moves and point values, which are how profits and losses are calculated for Futures. Another issue is that many traders trade both U.S. and international futures. You need to be able to mix these in a portfolio and optimize this basket. This is an awesome feature available in TradersStudio. We can assign a currency conversion file in TradersStudio and correctly handle converting profits on international futures to dollars. We also have many special features which allow us to develop any advanced money management you can dream of.

General features that affect both equity and futures are advance portfolio optimization as well as the best walk forward optimization feature of any platform. We are the only platform that can currently perform walk forward analysis on a portfolio as well as being able to generate orders for the next day from that analysis.

We have also added dozens of special tables and charts to help you analyze your systems results. In this blog we will discuss many of these features in TradersStudio and how they can help you become a more profitable trader. nike air max thea schwarz nike air max thea schwarz
